Twenty nine people were held hostage in their underwear in a home in Houston. Mauro Dominguez-Maldonado is responsible for trafficking the victims. He was illegally living in Houston. Mauro has been criminally charged. He is 36 years old and from Honduras.
A victim escaped the lockdown with barely any clothing on. He cried out for help and a neighbor notified the police. The police have reported that this is a human smuggling operation. The discovery was made on the 4800 block of Raven Ridge Drive on December 3 at about 9 pm. "It was crazy. It was like, wow, I don't have any words to say,” said neighbor Bruno Chavero. "Right when they started taking everyone out, that's when they let us out, and I could see a few people walking out naked, basically,” Chavero said. Police are investigating the matter. The victims are from Latin American countries, including Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, and Cuba. They were picked up in Brownsville and held hostage in Houston for nearly a week. The police stated that one of the victims said that he'd been promised a job in Houston. The victims were moved to a nearby school gym before immigration services picked them up. A Journalist that is a Chinese citizen has been detained in jail by the government due to her journalistic endeavors regarding the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan. Zhang Zhan has been in government custody for nearly seven months. She is on a hunger strike. Her lawyer informed CBS News that she "may not survive."
Zhan is a former lawyer. She was arrested in May for publicly posting videos from Wuhan at the beginning stage of the coronavirus pandemic. Zhan was accused by the government of China for "picking quarrels and provoking trouble." She previously endured charges because she vocalized publicly about the protests in Hong Kong. Zhan reported on her opposition to the government's virus containment measures. She was indicted in November for causing false information to circulate about the coronavirus in Wuhan. Zhan could receive up to five years in prison if she is convicted. Zhan’s lawyer has chosen to conceal his identity. Her lawyer stated, "She's unwell and refused to stop hunger strikes." Zhan is confined with a belt around her waist 24/7. Both of her hands are tied to restrain her from pulling her feeding tube out. Texas brought the charges against the four states to the Supreme Court. They are charging that the states, “made changes they made to election procedures amid the coronavirus pandemic unlawful.” Attorney General, Ken Paxton of Texas filed the lawsuit on December 8. The lawsuit states a request for the Supreme Court to block all electoral votes for the four states. This would equate to a total of 62 votes. Currently Biden has 306 electoral votes. Whereas, President Trump has 232. Furthermore, Texas has asked the Supreme Court to delay voting for the electoral college on December 14. The Trump administration has not been successful in multiple attempts to reverse the election at the local court level. State officials that worked for the election in the four states have stated that they did not report findings of voter fraud in the presidential election. Amendment 1 was referred to by some as the, “love life” amendment. Sixty percent of the state voted in favor of this amendment.
The amendment states that the constitution does not protect an abortion. More than half of the state's population agree with this stated notion. The passing of this amendment does not equate to banned abortions. Although, Louisiana perceives this amendment as a victory and a step in the right direction. The state believes this amendment is a can potentially be enacted in the future if Roe v Wade is overturned. President Trump immediately proceeded forward with plans to nominate a new justice. Trump has been hammered with raging opposition from Democrats.
Liberals are demanding that the vacant seat on the Supreme Court should not be filled until after the presidential election. A key opposing factor regarding Trump’s nomination is because Ginsburg was a strong liberal. Democrats are concerned that Barrett will radically shift the court from 6 conservatives to 3 liberals. Liberals are vocalizing that they believe Roe v wade is in jeopardy of being overturned if she is appointed. Trump proclaimed prior to becoming President that he would overturn Roe v Wade. Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett on September 26. Amy Barrett is a federal appeals court judge. She is a Professor at Notre Dame in Indiana. She is a mother to 7 children, two are adopted. Barret will become the youngest Supreme Court justice if she is appointed. |
